Information About Clipper Cards

The Clipper Card is an electronic transit card that can be used on most fixed-route transit services in the Bay Area. The card keeps track of the cash you have set aside to spend on transportation, including passes and ride books you have purchased. Information about discounts you may qualify for are stored on the card. It keeps track of your fares, transfers, and other rules that may apply to you.

People with disabilities, seniors, and youth are issued special cards that allow them to pay the discounted rate for their category. Discounts will vary from one transit system to another.

Regular Clipper Cards are available through your local transit district for a small fee or online at: www.clippercard.com/ClipperWeb/getTranslinkOrderCard.do

The Regional Transit Connection (RTC) Discount Clipper Card is available to persons with disabilities for a fee.

To apply for this card, go to www.transit.511.org/RTC/RTDC.aspx to review the qualifying requirements for the RTC card. There is a $3.00 fee.

  • Complete the Basic or Medical eligibility form. A copy of the Basic form is available online at the web address above. The Medical eligibility form is available from your local transit agency.
  • Collect the necessary supporting information.

Contact your local transit agency to submit your application and have your photograph taken. Should you choose not to use the Clipper Card function of your RTC card, it may still be necessary to have the card to ensure you receive all discounted fares.

People age 65 or older are eligible for the Senior Clipper Card. This card affords seniors all discounts they are entitled to while riding on local transit buses or BART. Applications are available online at https://www.clippercard.com/ClipperWeb/discounts or at local transit agency offices. Applications must be returned by mail, e-mail, or fax to the address listed on the application.
