Caring Hands creates long term, one-on-one matches between dedicated volunteers and seniors who need support and companionship. In addition to providing free transportation and escort to medical appointments, shopping and errands, our screened and trained volunteers also provide friendly visiting, social outings, reading mail, letter writing and respite care to give a break to a family caregiver.

A phone interview and a home assessment by a social worker are required. Due to high demand there is usually a waiting list for services.

Mobility Matters operates two volunteer driver programs, that provide free, one on one, door through door, escorted rides by screened and trained volunteer drivers using their own cars.
Essentially homebound seniors over age 60 living in Contra Costa County who are ambulatory, with or without equipment, and do not have access to safe appropriate transportation for medical and dental care and basic necessities, like grocery shopping. Riders must require door through door escort with elbow or standby assistance to qualify.
Honorably discharged veterans of any age living in Contra Costa County who are ambulatory, with or without equipment, and do not have access to safe appropriate transportation for medical and dental care and basic necessities, like grocery shopping.

Riders must be Orinda residents aged 65 or older or if less than 65 must have medical condition that limits their driving.
